Another year, another big start to awards season. The 2019 Golden Globes was a big celebration of diversity, with host Sandra Oh’s moving speech on actors of color and women finally being seen. There were some big wins as well. Oh won for her role in Killing Eve, making her the first Asian American actress to win multiple Golden Globes, the first person of Asian descent to host the awards and the first Asian American actress to win Best Actress in a TV drama in nearly forty years. Rami Malek won for his portrayal Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and Darren Criss won for his role in American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. Other big wins included Olivia Colman for her role in The Favourite, Spider-man: Into the Spiderverse for Best Animated Film, and Regina King for her part in If Beale Street Could Talk.
