BioWare/Electronic Arts’ anticipated demo for their newest big title Anthem was met with criticism over a myriad of problems. So much so that BioWare had to issue an apology over the problems users experienced.
Some of the issues included being unable to log into the game, infinite load screens between game areas, game and server stability issues, and more. Chat Robertson, BioWare’s head of live service, denied that the problems were not caused by BioWare’s inability to plan for server capacity. The problems were caused by a spike of players entering the game when the demo launched which lead to the issues that BioWare failed to see during their own internal testing of the game.
They also said that there was an issue with player entitlements, meaning that if you had account flags for pre-order bonuses and had a certain combination of them, it ended up locking that account out of the demo. BioWare did notice the issue with the infinite load screens and cited that the dynamics of different network setups and ISPs on the user’s end could make this a problem that’s tricky to tackle and it may not be solved before the demo’s end.
In an attempt to rectify some of the quality of life issues with the demo, BioWare stated that everyone who plays Anthem’s demo will receive an additional new vinyl at launch.
As for the PC version, BioWare admitted that the demo was running on an older build and they have already fixed issues such as keyboard and mouse input lag issues.
