First, it was Activision CFO Spencer Neumann, now Blizzard CFO Amrita Ahuja is leaving the company to take up the mantle at credit card publishing giant Square, Inc. Square’s previous CFO, Sarah Friar, stepped down from her role in October 2018. Square, Inc’s shares fell 30% since Friar announced her departure from the company; however, in their search, Ahuja quickly rose to the top of their search for her replacement.
Square, Inc. CEO Jack Dorsey made the following statement on the hiring of Ahuja:
“Amrita brings the ability to consider and balance opportunities across our entire business, and she will help strengthen our discipline as we invest, build, and scale.”
Ahuja’s past with Blizzard Entertainment saw her in many roles such as Senior Vice President of Investor Relations as well as Vice President of Finance and Operations.
Ahuja’s departure comes at a time when Activision Blizzard seems to be undergoing a cost-cutting restructuring due to the lack of player engagement across many games such as Destiny 2 and World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. So far, both divisions of the company have lost their CFO and have laid off 100 employees.
