In a surprising reveal, Pixar has dropped its first trailer for the upcoming Toy Story 4. It’s only about a minute and a half long, but we do get a sense of some of the themes the film will be exploring.
Watch below:
It’s a serene scene as the camera pans around a familiar cast of characters until it reaches what looks like a plastic spork with googly eyes and pipe cleaner arms. It looks like the newest installment in the Toy Story franchise could get existential because clearly, the fork creature is upset by its own sentience and awareness. In addition to the brief trailer, the first poster has been shared that announces a release date for next summer, June 2019.
The last we heard from Woody and Buzz was in 2010 with Toy Story 3, where their story with Andy was brought to a close. It was only natural that Pixar would follow up on the series that made a name for the studio, and it looks like the upcoming film could pose some interesting questions about life and consciousness in the world of toys.
