It seems like everyone’s been trying to jump start their own streaming services, but if anyone seems to have the best chance of surviving, it’s Disney. Overlooking the long, long filmography of classics that they made, Disney now owns two of the biggest cinematic universes in popular cinema: Marvel and Star Wars. And they aren’t resting on their laurels either, Disney+ will be firing up brand new shows to draw in subscribers.
On the Star Wars side of things, we have a show going into production next year that follows Cassian Andor, the Rebel spy from Rogue One, and his time in the early days of the Rebellion. And yes, Diego Luna will be reprising the role for the show.
“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna in the official press release. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”
Additionally, The Mandalorian will also be a Disney+ exclusive show that is still being put together, and there will be the long-awaited revival of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
No need for Marvel fans to feel left out though. We will be getting a show about everyone’s favorite Asgardian trickster Loki, and yes, Tom Hiddleston will be back in the horned helmet. Unfortunately, this is the project we know the least about, but it has been confirmed. Rumor has it, via Variety, that Scarlet Witch might also be getting her own stand-alone series starring Elizabeth Olsen.
Will all of this be enough to bring in the fans? Only time, and the reviews these shows get, will tell.
