Riverdale is one of those shows no one thought was going to live through an entire season, and yet has now inspired two spinoffs. The first is the highly anticipated The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, based on the popular comic by Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. But now there’s going to be a second spinoff for the CW.
“Right now, we’re trying to make sure that the shows have their own identity and their own set of rules,” Aguirre-Sacasa revealed at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “We’re still early on in the process and it will be very different from ‘Riverdale.’ ”
But sadly, that’s all the information we got about it. There are a lot of theories floating around, like following Josie and the Pussycats, looking the parents of Riverdale when they were in high school, or a look at the mafia subplot that runs through the show. Still, it will likely be tied to an already existing Archie property, so don’t expect too much out of left field. Hopefully they’ll stick to their word and go in a really different direction than what we’ve seen so far.
Until then, October is a big month for Riverdale fans. Riverdale Season 3 premieres on October 3rd on CW. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina premieres on Netflix on October 26th.
