Good news had recently surfaced for those looking forward to seeing more from a galaxy far far away. The cast list has recently been revealed for the next entry in the series so far titled Star Wars Episode IX.
A whole host of recognizable names are involved in the project including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. Fans should already be reaffirmed in the quality of Episode IX, but of course, there’s more. Mark Hamill is coming back to conclude the Skywalker saga with help from Billy Dee Williams as the man himself Lando Calrissian, Anthony Williams, and Carrie Fisher.
Yes, you read that right, Ms. Fisher will make an appearance to reprise her role as Leia thanks to unused footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Her presence in the world is undoubtedly missed, and many fans of the franchise feel as though the series will never be quite the same without her. Director J.J. Abrams agrees wholeheartedly, stating the following:
“Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
The sincerity behind the gesture and the involvement of Fisher’s daughter in the decision to include her in the film are both reassuring signs of the love and care displayed in the creation of Episode IX.
All in all, we still have a lot to learn about the next and final chapter in this trilogy, but at least we can rest assured the casting is strong. Be sure to check back for more Star Wars updates, and until then we all eagerly await the film’s December 2019 release date.
