ITV’s hit aristocratic show Downton Abbey will receive a movie soon. Good heavens! Admittedly I haven’t seen the show, but I imagine they say “good heavens” a lot. That’s my take. But enough of my opining, let’s get to the news.
According to Hypable, the Downton Abbey movie will start filming this summer. The entire cast will return. Series creator Julian Fellows wrote the film, which Brian Percival will direct.
The series, which ran for six seasons, ended in 2015. In the past three years, it seems that the producers have been working hard to bring a return to the events surrounding the Crowley family. With movies of popular television shows, it often takes a mix of timing and the right circumstances to bring everyone back together. In a recent interview, executive producer Gareth Neame seemed to say as much:
“When the television series drew to a close it was our dream to bring the millions of global fans a movie and now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production. Julian’s script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival’s hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen.”
Since filming has yet to commence, there’s no date set for release. Still, we have a starting date projected for this summer, so I’d expect it sometime later in 2019. Until then, as I imagine they frequently say on the show, cheerio!
