Tom Holland has notorious trouble with keeping secrets. Maybe it’s the fact that he’s just too sweet and gullible, but the man always seems to be a target for press trying to get spoilers out of the cast. The problem with this, of course, is that it works.
But honestly who can blame him? If Marvel handed me a script with all the juicy details of their next cinematic smash hit you’d be hard pressed to not find me bursting at the seams with excitement, ready to spill the beans all over the damn place, even if by accident. This seems to be a chronic problem facing the star of Spider-Man: Homecoming, as he’s leaked or almost leaked crucial details of upcoming titles on several occasions, much to the simultaneous woe and amusement of his more seasoned co-stars.
It looks like the actor finally got to scratch that announcement itch recently though. In an Instagram video posted by Holland, he reveals that he’s got the script for the next Spider-Man movie in hand as he flashes a title card on an iPad that reads: Spider-Man: Far From Home.
The actor lightly muses about his character’s demise in Infinity War and questions how that will play into the upcoming Spider-Man film. To fans, this was a fun way for Marvel to acknowledge Holland’s loose-lipped habits, as well as a way for the actor to finally get to announce something. In all likelihood, Marvel probably hedged their bets and gave the new Peter Parker something to reveal for fear of him announcing something more substantial. Better to get it out of his system right?
As soon as the title was announced fans began eagerly speculating on just how far from home Far From Home will take place. Perhaps a trip to Europe is in order for Peter, as it was revealed earlier this year that filming for the sequel was taking place in London. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, revealed that Spidey would indeed be in New York, but implied that he was in for some globe-trotting as well.
Rumors have been circulating since May that Jake Gyllenhaal was in talks to play Mysterio, a notorious member of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. What does this mean about our knowledge of the film? Unfortunately nothing concrete yet, but as more solid rumors surface the puzzle will come together, constructed by eager fans who can’t wait for Holland’s return to the role of the web-slinger.
We’ll stay up to date on anything new from Marvel Studios, as well as any details that our wholesome star might let slip. Until then we wait with baited breath for Spider-Man: Far From Home’s July 5th, 2019 release.
