Green Lantern has been the butt of many jokes in Hollywood since the atrocious 2011 film, but Warner Bros Studios seems to be doing everything they can to redeem themselves with the upcoming reboot, such as adding a DC comics veteran to pen the script.
DC comics’ writer Geoff Johns will be working on the screenplay for the upcoming Green Lantern Corps movie. Johns had recently stepped down from his position as President and chief creative officer of DC Entertainment to focus on a writer-producer deal with Warner Bros. and DC. Not only will he write the script, but he will be producing it through his new company, Mad Ghost Productions.
The Green Lantern Corps movie has seen its fair share of shake-ups during its production. The initial script was written by David Goyer and Justin Rhodes, and was described as a “Lethal Weapon in space” featuring Hal Jordan and John Stewart in a buddy-cop scenario. Now it seems that Johns will be focusing on a re-write for the story’s plot.
If anyone is capable of writing a great Green Lantern story – it’s Geoff Johns. His run of Green Lantern in the mid-2000s contained some of the series best story arcs such as Blackest Night, Sinestro Corps War, and Green Lantern: Rebirth. Although many associate the series with the terrible 2011 film, Green Lantern, Johns’ run of the series in the comics was some of DC’s most entertaining reads.
As of now, there is no information on casting or directing duties for Green Lantern Corps, but the film is set for a July 24, 2020 release.
