Looks like someone pushed the wrong button. FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, and Marvel have agreed to a mutual parting of ways, according to a statement issued by FX on Saturday.
Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel’s Deadpool animated series. FX will no longer be involved with the project. FX and Marvel have an ongoing relationship through our partnership [with] Legion, which will continue.
The untitled series, which was slated to premiere this year on FXX, was to be produced by Marvel’s television division alongside FX Productions and ABC Signature Studios. It is currently unknown if the collaboration between Marvel and ABC Studios for the Deadpool series will continue. Deadpool’s character rights belong to Fox until the Disney acquisition is completed, so in the meantime, the series must be done with another Fox production entity. 20th Century Fox TV is the only Fox TV studio besides FX Productions.
What further complicates this, is that Donald Glover, the star of FX’s Atlanta, is under an exclusive deal with FX Productions, which the Deadpool animated series falls under. The Glover Brothers were attached to the show as showrunners, executive producers, and writers.
It looks like the Merc with a Mouth…is now the Merc without a Show.
