Dates for the Sea of Thieves closed beta have just been announced, which is great news for anyone who pre-ordered the game or signed up for the Insider Programme before December 1st. Beginning at 4AM PST on January 24th and ending at midnight the morning of January 29th, players will have five days to explore a specially-crafted preview experience from Rare intended to offer a taste of what the full game will have in store.
Although (and perhaps because) participants in the closed beta will not be testing the full game, the NDA from the technical alpha has been lifted. This means that all booty-plunderin’, beta testin’ buccaneers are free to stream their shenanigans, as well as share videos and screenshots, in any manner they choose. If you missed the cutoff for signing up for the Insider Programme but still want to weigh anchor this month, then there’s still time to get into the Sea of Thieves closed beta by pre-ordering the game.
Sea of Thieves is scheduled for release on the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC on March 20th, 2018. The game will be an Xbox One X Enhanced title, running in native 4k.
