Mamma Mia 2 Has a New Trailer and is Donna Still the Dancing Queen?

By Andrew AgressDecember 22, 2017
Mamma Mia Here We Go Again

Friday night and the lights are low, as I just finished watching the new trailer for Mamma Mia 2. Aptly titled, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, the sequel is evidently about a pregnant Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried, learning about her mother’s life.

Yes, it has the requisite ABBA songs and beautiful shots of Greece, but it seems to be missing something. Or someone. All of the footage used for Donna, Meryl Streep’s character, appears to be from the original film. At one point, Sophie refers to her in the past tense. So Donna might be dead. Alternatively, it could be that Universal just wants it to look that way. It would be odd for a film to kill off its main character for the sequel, let alone one played by Meryl Streep, and it doesn’t seem like she was unavailable. Check out the trailer for yourself and see if you think she’s supposed to be dead or if it’s deliberately misleading.

Also appearing in the Mamma Mia sequel are Lily James as a young Donna and Cher as Sophie’s grandma.

You can dance, you can jive, you can see the movie this coming July.
