Splatoon 2 is a major hit for the Nintendo Switch, and one of the most anticipated games for the system in its first year. It’s also one of the best selling games on the Switch. So, to keep interesting going, Nintendo and the team at the Squid Research Labs have been providing not just Splatefests (which the team at the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast love), but also, giving free updates for players.
And, on November 23rd, a massive free update is coming. How massive? Well, you’ll be getting new gear and looks for your Inklings, a new Salmon Run map, a boost in the level cap for the game, and 4 new battle stages that’ll roll out over the next few weeks. Oh, and the gear we talked about? It’s 140 pieces! That’s a lot!
But then, in December, we’re getting a whole new Ranked Battle Mode called Clam Blitz! In it, you’ll have to work with your team to find, collect, and then store Clams in a basket near your opponents base. It won’t be easy, and you’ll have to collect 100 points to win!
The team behind the game really wanted these updates to shine:
“We really had two goals in making these two updates free to our player base,” Hisashi Nogami said to IGN of the two major updates. “The first is that…We had a strong player base from the game’s launch. We want to continue offering new and exciting content for those players. Also, as we head into the end of the year, we’re hoping that there will be a significant number of people who pick up the Switch for the first time or pick up Splatoon 2 as a new purchase. We want to give those people a robust amount of content that they can enjoy along with the players that have been there since day one.”
