Get ready for the Boston Uprising and the Los Angeles Valiant
Overwatch League, Blizzard’s new esports venture for the game Overwatch, is picking up speed. The December 6th date for preseason play looms large for both fans and players alike. Joining the already announced San Francisco Shock, Dallas Fuel, and Shanghai Dragons are the Boston Uprising and Los Angeles Valiant.
LA announced its team name and colors on Monday while Boston made the announcement earlier today. Both announcements followed the style of the previous teams showing a character from the game in the new team’s colors. No word yet on if these character skins will be available for all players.
The Los Angeles Valiant are the newest team to the city of angles but to the Immortals, an esports organization from the area, this simply represents a new brand. The Immortals began as a League of Legends team. Since their creation they have expanded to field esports teams in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Super Smash Bros., and DOTA 2. Immortals is bringing considerable esports experience to this new team and league making the Valiant a team to watch.
The new Boston team is sports a blue, yellow, and black color scheme and is owned by Robert and Jonathan Kraft. If those names sound familiar it’s because the Kraft Group also owns the New England Patriots NFL team and the New England Revolution MLS team. Being no stranger to professional sports leagues what the Kraft Group does with the Uprising should be exciting.
Robert Kraft said in a press release that “We look forward to introducing sports fans in Boston to the new Overwatch League with a local team they can support. We are also eager to use the Boston Uprising to introduce Boston and our franchise to the global community of esports.”
Still to be announced are the team names for the rest of the league cities. These are New York City, Miami/Orlando, Seoul, London, the second Los Angles team, Philadelphia, and Houston. Like the rest of the Overwatch world, we’ll be waiting eagerly for more info.
