James Cameron has a big surprise for Terminator fans who were disappointed – that’s being nice, btw – with the last 3 movies. Cameron has confirmed that Terminator 6 will be the direct continuation of the series after Terminator 2.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter and T6 director Tim Miller, Cameron was asked about the timeline for the upcoming film:
This is a continuation of the story from Terminator 1 and Terminator 2, and we’re pretending the other films were a bad dream. Or an alternate timeline, which is permissible in our multiverse. This was really driven more by [Tim] than anybody, surprisingly, because I came in pretty agnostic about where we took it. The only thing I insisted on was that we somehow revamp it and reinvent it for the 21st century.”
Putting Rise of the Machines, Salvation and Genysis on the backburner seems to be the best option, with those films being flops on more than one level.
Terminator 6 is slated for release on July 26, 2019.
