It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything out of the SAG-AFTRA Strike against video games. We began coverage on this Strike when the demands where made by the SAG-AFTRA Union in 2015, then again when the actors went on strike when both the Union and the companies could not agree on a deal… That was back in 2016. Well now with the actors on strike against a great many games that have been released or are still in development, it’s finally caused some big name games some trouble. Life is Strange: Before the Storm, which was announced at E3 2017, and the still in development Resident Evil 2 HD Remake.
So what has happened? According to a video from Alyson Court(Claire Redfield in the original Resident Evil 2) and a tweet from Ashly Burch (Life is Strange’s Chloe), both projects will be going on ahead without them. According to the video from Alyson Count, which you can watch below, the localisation team behind the English version of Resident Evil 2 HD Remake is going to be using non-Union voice actors. As for Ashly Burch and her non-involvement in Life is Strange: Before the Storm, there is no reason given.
“My agent got some emails from a couple of different companies that were bidding on the contract to do the localisation for the game and the voice recordings and the motion capture,” Court explained. “And I heard from a company out of Vancouver, and they asked if I would be willing to work them out of Vancouver to do the voice recordings and I said, ‘absolutely, love to!’
“And then I heard from a company in LA; they asked the same thing and I said, ‘of course, yes, whatever they needed.’ And then the company in LA got the contract, and as soon as they won the contract, they informed me that, actually, they wouldn’t be needing my services as they were going non-union.” Court continued. Court then said later in a Tweet that Capcom was not involved in the decision, but at the same time she don’t know that for sure.

Ashly Burch released the following statement via her Twitter page:
Hey y'all, to the fans asking – I wasn't able to reprise my role as Chloe in Life is Strange: Before the Storm due to the SAG-AFTRA strike
— Ashly Burch 🏳️🌈 (@ashly_burch) June 12, 2017
While Alyson Court isn’t really doing much at the moment, her IMDB page showing that she has not worked since wrapping on cameo appearance on Murdoch Mysteries in 2016, it seems that Ashly Burch isn’t exactly going to be hurting for a paycheck. Burch recently tweeted that she has been picked up to voice Enid in OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes animated series and video game. In fact, Burch’s IMDB page shows that she has been taking work since the strike began, including projects that are on the SAG-AFTRA lock out list.
So stoked to announce that I play Enid on OK KO! I'm the luckiest boy in America! https://t.co/J05hYiR0gH

don't make an ice pun
don't make an ice pun
don't make an it'll be really *ice* for you to meet the new characters in this DLC DAMNIT https://t.co/e1dIZAC1AD— Ashly Burch 🏳️🌈 (@ashly_burch) June 13, 2017
On a personal note, it doesn’t surprise me that Burch is willing to drop her personal morals when offered enough money. After all, she did do Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin? on Destructoid & GameTrailers for years which sucked terribly… And nothing to mention her brother Anthony who has thrown his whole career at Gearbox Software down the toilet over his extremist left-wing views, a job in which he used his position as lead writer to give his sister the role of Tiny Tina in Borderlands 2, leading to her career in the games industry.
At the end of the day, I guess it’s our loss when it comes to Alyson Court not being allowed to reprise her role as Claire Redfield, but when it comes to Ashly Burch #PerformanceMatters till you pay the right amount of money. We here at The Outerhaven hope that the SAG-AFTRA Strike ends soon for Alyson’s sake.
