“Rocko’s Modern Life” Gets a Reboot with the Original Cast

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJune 22, 2017
Rocko

In an era where no franchise is dead for long, many have awaited to see what other beloved shows Nickelodeon would bring back. Now joining Hey Arnold! and Invader Zim, 90s cult classic Rocko’s Modern Life is set to return for a one-hour special. Entitled Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, the special has one more thing going for it — all of the original cast will be reprising their roles.

Rocko

Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko); Tom Kenny (Heffer); Mr. Lawrence (Filburt); Charlie Adler (Ed and Bev Bighead); Linda Wallem (Aunt Gretchen); and Jill Talley (Nosey) have all returned to their roles. Joe Murray, the series creator, will also be involved in the project.

While the plot of the special is not known exactly yet, other than Rocko, Heffer and Filbert return from space (where they were stranded in the series finale) to find a brave, new social media world. There has been a description of how the characters are doing as well:

“Heffer and Filburt embrace every aspect of new technology, social media and the endless diversity of food trucks, [while] Rocko whole-heartedly believes his nostalgia for the past can save him from the tortures of the modern world.”

It seems like the world of Rocko has changed, which makes me wonder if that means all the characters are going to be getting significantly older as well, and what that might mean for the show. Additionally, if this will be the finally entry for the Rocko’s Modern Life franchise, will it have a level of finality or will it end a similarly over the top ending from the last ending. Still, for fans of the show, an extra episode goes a long way to tying up a beloved, and uniquely weird, show.

Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling is set to debut on Nickelodeon sometime in 2018.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
