CD Projekt RED revealed today via Twitter that information on their upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077 is being held for ransom. Assuming the person or people making the threat are legitimate, they will leak sensitive documents related to the game if their demands aren’t met.
The Witcher developer decided the best approach was to get in front of the issue by making fans aware of the situation. In their official statement, they say the thieves claim to have “internal files” and documents containing details about the game.
While they have kept a tight lid on the development of Cyberpunk 2077, they do not seem too concerned with the threat. The developer states they will not pay a ransom, and if information is leaked, so be it.

In their statement, they note that their game is far enough from release that these “internal files” will not be representative of the final product. However, if you are looking forward to Cyberpunk and learning more about it, you should wait for official announcements straight from CD Projekt RED. They conclude, “When the time is right, you will hear about Cyberpunk 2077 from us – officially.”
Because they chose to make the issue public, these leaks might not come to light at all. Instead of keeping quiet or simply paying the ransom, CD Projekt announced that their work and the development of Cyberpunk will not be affected by these threats.
