At the end of last season of Orange is the New Black, we see the inmates rally and take over the prison after Poussey is killed by one of the guards. A premise too good to go to waste, Season 5 shows the struggles of Litchfield’s inmates to make their voices heard.

The show has slowly veered away from being just Piper’s story and now encapsulates several characters and this riot storyline seems to be no exception. After being bought by a private company and forced to take on way more inmates and untrained guards. Daya, having been abandoned by Bennett and having to give up her child, is pushed to the edge and was last seen holding a gun at an abusive and cruel new officer. There’s no hint as to whether or not Daya shoots him, but given the lighter tone in what looks like the immediate aftermath in the trailer, I’m guessing she doesn’t.
However, how exactly this will all work out is what’s really going to draw people in. It looks like Tastee is going to be a big part of being in command, though there are still other factions to deal with inside the prison’s walls. For the most part, the trailer shows unity but that doesn’t necessarily mean all will be well at Litchfield. Not to mention the fact that there’s no indication what happens to the guards and the administration — are they trapped in the building or will they be let out?
The majority of Season 5’s episodes were linked by a hacker (or group of hackers) called TheDarkOverlord, so there might be answers to these questions already floating around if you’re willing to look for them. If you’re looking to watch it on Netflix unspoiled, you’ll only have a wait another month to see it.
Orange is the New Black Season 5 debuts on Netflix on June 9.
