Netflix is developing and producing a new drama series based on The Witcher Saga from Polish writer Andrzej Sakowski. The series consists of Sakowski’s eight books, which inspired CD Projekt RED’s popular video game franchise. The series follow people known as “witchers”, who have special abilities selected to battle and hunt monsters.
Sapkowski will be a creative consultant on the Netflix series. “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” he said in a press release.
Sean Daniel and Jason Brown (The Expanse) will serve as executive producers. “The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising” Daniel and Brown said in regards to the Witcher series. “We can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.” The Sean Daniel Company will work in cooperation with Polish production company Platige Image in bringing the series to life.

Tomek Baginski of Platige, who directed the CGI openings for each of the Witcher games, will direct at least one episode per season. This might suggest that while the book series will serve as the primary source for the Netflix series, they might acknowledge CD Projekt’s contributions to the franchise as well.
