SEGA has officially announced that the remake of the first Yakuza title, Yakuza Kiwami, will be making its way to the Americas and Europe on August 29th.
The remake features completely rebuilt HD visuals and re-recorded voice acting from the Japanese cast, 30 extra minutes of cutscenes that provide “all-new insight into the game’s plot” and that tie into the previous prequel, Yakuza 0. There are also some newly added distractions, such as Pocket Circuit car racing, new hostesses and more. SEGA also promises that the game will run at 1080p60 on the PlayStation 4.
Another added twist will be the “Majima Everywhere” system, that will have the series’ deranged one-eyed maniac “constantly surprise and challenge Kiryu to combat when he least expects it.”
We’re talking “popping out of a goofy costume” levels of surprise, so players must stay on their toes and be ready to defend themselves from Kiryu’s chief rival.
Yakuza Kiwami will be released in both physical and digital formats for the PlayStation 4, at a retail price of USD$29.99/CDN$39.99. Players who pre-order or purchase one of the first-run copies of Yakuza Kiwami will receive the game in a SteelBook Edition.
One last piece of news, SEGA has launched the Yakuza Experience website, described as “an all-new Yakuza portal where the world of Yakuza can be explored via an interactive timeline and character map.”
Right now you can check out everything leading up to 1995, where Yakuza Kiwami starts! The site also features the first issue of a 10-issue digital comic, starting with some of the key events of Yakuza 0 and taking you along for the ride all the way up to Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, coming to PS4 early next year. Veterans of the series can expect some surprises in store for them in the comic!
