I suppose we can file this under who didn’t see this coming? Ubisoft has let various people in the gaming media know that they will not receive a copy of For Honor. Well, not until the release copies are accessible by the public. Meaning there won’t be able reviews available for the title before the release date or even on day one.
They definitely seem to be following Bethesda’s choice of not providing review copies until the game shipped. And sure, there maybe a handful of streamers or YouTubers who may get early access, but this won’t be the norm. Thankfully for most, an open beta will be conducted one week prior to For Honor‘s release date. The open beta WILL NOT include any single player campaign.
Keep in mind when Bethesda did this, it resulted with mixed results. While DOOM 2016 did not have any review copies until it shipped, it was the exception so far. Their following title, Skyrim Remastered, definitely would have benefitted from early reviews; the game shipped in a buggy mess.
The question here, however, is when will this stop? Or will this practice simply keep going until no review copies are provided at all? Sadly, that’s a question that we don’t have an answer to. But I know for sure that the entire game journalist community would love to know that answer as well.
For Honor launches February 14, 2017, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
