Most people were already hyped for Marvel’s TV show team-up The Defenders, coming out later this year. By announcing that Sigourney Weaver is the villain of the season, the bar has officially been raised.
Weaver will play an character named Alexandera, a “sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous” powerhouse that will somehow threaten to overturn order in New York. There’s not a lot of information as to who she is or what she’ll be doing, but she is described as a powerful force who is trying to make things happen.
We do know that some characters some from the single-hero series will be making appearances in The Defenders. These include Detective Misty Knight from Luke Cage; Karen Page, Elektra Natchios, and Foggy Nelson from Daredevil; Jeri Hogarth, Malcolm Ducasse, and Trish Walker from Jessica Jones; and the one character tying all the series together, Claire Temple. We also know that Danny Rand aka Iron Fist will be the one to bring the group together in order to get the job done, whatever that job might be.
There’s no word yet at to when exactly in 2017 we’ll be getting the 8-episode long miniseries, but sometime after Iron Fist, set to debut on March 17, 2017.
