While most of us were either playing Final Fantasy XV, or an early received copy of The Last Guardian or even watching the 2016 Capcom Cup, a new game was announced. MechWarrior: 5 Mercenaries, a game in a series that many have left for dead. Well, because it actually was for quite some time. That is until Piranha picked up the license and then released the F2P Online title, MechWarrior Online. Oddly enough the game shares the same name with MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries. It hasn’t been mentioned how the two titles are connected – with the exception of the character you play being a mercenary themselves.
During the announcement there was also footage of the game in action, showcasing an unnamed mech engaging in battle with another lone mech. Suddenly the base the mech is located on is placed under attack. While we really don’t get to see much combat, it was nice to see the game running on the Unreal Engine 4. Mainly since MechWarrior 5 was announced before prior to , back during 2009 and then we didn’t hear much about it since then.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is slotted for a 2018 release date for PC. Not much else is known about the title with the exception that it will be a standalone title. It will be completely story-driven unless the currently running MechWarrior Online game.
