Sales of Final Fantasy XV, which was released worldwide on Tuesday, November 29th, 2016, exceeded 5 million copies shipped on launch day, according to a press release from Square-Enix. This included shipped and digital downloads of the game from all available platforms. I guess after a 10-year wait that everyone was pretty eager to get their hands on the game.
Originally beginning development as Final Fantasy Versus XIII in 2006, the game spent a decade in development, with Square-Enix officially announcing the name change at E3 in 2013. Critical response so far has been positive; the game’s current Metacritic score is 84. We’ll have our own review later this month.
Final Fantasy XV is available now for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
