During New York Comic Con (NYCC) 2016, Netflix and Dreamworks revealed the start date for season 2 of Voltron Legendary Defender. On January 20, 2017, season 2 of Voltron Legendary Defender will begin, taking place immediately after the first season’s abrupt cliffhanger when the paladins were scattered due to a wormhole disruption, during the battle with Zarkon, Haggar, and the Galra Empire. Season 2 will have new challenges for the Voltron team as they face new challenges, bring Voltron back together, and take down Zarkon.
On October 7, 2016, at 2:30pm, myself and fans of were treated to a sneak peek of Season 2 and Q&A with the cast and crew on the Main Stage at Javits Center. Voice actors Jeremy Shada (Lance) and Bex Taylor-Klaus (Pidge) joined executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos, co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery and story editor Tim Hedrick to talked about the next steps in Team Voltron’s journey.
On January 20, 2017, fans can also enjoy the Voltron Collective including Play Mates toys with lion masks, swords, and a button to hear the characters voice. The Voltron Collective will also have New Era caps, Illest martial arts gear, Brooklyn Projects t-shirts, Voltron-themed skateboards, Han Cholo jewelry, Lion Force comics, and Archives Acme Limited patches.
The panel began with Voltron trivia as the fans jammed to DJ Freefall. The winner of the trivia would receive a prize of “their very own lion!” Just kidding, the prize was a waterproof speaker from AT&T. Fans were then treated to view the full 2nd episode called “The Depths”, as well as some clips. Episode 2 continued the journey of Lance and Hank as they spit out of the wormhole and crash land in a stellar underwater planet full of mermaids. The clips shown at the panel are of Pidge alone in a trash nebula with no gravity. This small taste of season 2 already shows substantial change and growth of the Voltron paladins. During the panel, the cast and crew admitted that Shiro and Keith are in trouble, but couldn’t say anything more. If one thing is clear from these clips it is that Lance has grown with the blue lion and has adopted leadership capabilities, although he still has a weakness for girls (in this case mermaids). Pidge is also moving away from being a loner as she establishes a stronger bond with her Voltron team. Fans already know that each lion has unique abilities, and in this

Fans already know that each lion has unique abilities, and in this episode, Lance unlocked an upgrade for his blue lion. This only means that we can look forward to seeing the paladins grow, their lions level up, and the Voltron force gets stronger.
The cast and crew shared that working with an intergalactic universe gives the team freedom to create new planets and new creatures. Laura Mongomery openly admitted her intense fondness for mermaids and that her love for animation is highly influenced from The Little Mermaid. Bringing the Voltron journey to an underwater planet of mermaids was one of her few selfish creative directions, in addition to wanting Pidge to be a girl. Bex Taylor-Klaus adds that all she can speak to on Pidge, is she still wants to find her family.
A news announcement by itself can make me eager to binge watch the Netflix exclusive Voltron Legendary Defender on January 20, 2017, but this sneak peak only accelerated this anticipation and validated my confidence that season 2 is going to be everything fans want it to be .
