Yesterday wasn’t very kind to 2K Games and Hanger 13’s release of Mafia III. At least not on the PC that is. It was made known that the game only featured a locked 30 frames per second on the PC, something that the PC gaming community didn’t take kindly to and neither did we. 2K Games did come out and explain that there is a patch that would address the issue, however, they didn’t give any mention as to when the patch would see the light of day.
However, it looks like that as of last night, they updated their Mafia website with another update. This update wasn’t on the website as of last night when we reported on the 30 FPS issue.
We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III. We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!
If this is true, and the patch actually does address the issue, then this would be a godsend for the game. I guess I’ll go pick up my copy of Mafia III after all and report back if the patch does provide the improvements that are being promised.
