What is better than supporting people who are dedicated to achieving their creative dreams? Getting a bunch of cool stuff for it! Yes, that’s what crowdfunding is all about–support someone who’s actually out there doing it, and get a stack of awesome art for it. If there’s one thing I love about crowdfunding comics and graphic novels, it’s the low-risk, high-reward nature of the medium. Below is a list of the 6 Coolest Comics You Can Back on Kickstarter Right Now, so hurry up and throw your money at these creators and snag some great books before the projects disappear!
6. Goofy Froot Vol. I: Ripe Of The Page
To put it simply, Goofy Froot is a comic about Froots. The book is a series of small comics in what seems to be a more strip-like form rather than an arching narrative, which makes this book perfect coffee table clutter. There is some ridiculousness here, but it’s presented in just the right way to make it charming. It’s no surprise that the creators got started selling prints and shirts–there’s a lot of design appeal in the characters and panels, and if the six comics shown on the Kickstarter page are any indication, backers can expect solid humor mixed with surprisingly insightful slices of Froot-life.

5. Monster of the Week Issue 1
Described as Adventure Time meets Kaiju, Monster of the Week follows a group of young monster hunters as they chase down the giant creatures falling from the sky in the Midwestern U.S. Issue 1 looks to be the first in a running series, and should the book get off the ground, and I’d love to see where it goes. The project is also headed up by some real talent as well, having illustrated for some mega-popular franchises, like Adventure Time, Marvel, Ghostbusters, and more.

4. Wax & Wane
Wax & Wayne is a charming 64 page comic about two young friends and a dark secret. After reading through the first part of the story on Wax & Wane’s site, the sample’s supernatural secrets have got me wanting so much more. To quote the Kickstarter description, Wax & Wane is “a comic about friendship, courage, and repressed bloodlust.” It’s a first foray into the comic world for the creator, so there’s a lot of passion here and it looks to be worth every effort.

3. Johnny Wander: Our Cats are More Famous than Us
A seriously huge book, the Johnny Wander omnibus collects all 8 years of the Johnny Wander webcomic, impressively adding up to just under 400 comics. You’ll be reading for awhile. In case you haven’t read the webcomic, it’s an autobiographical piece that’s only gotten better over the years, both in content and in style. Check out the site for more great comics, because I’m certain you’ll be hooked. Oh, and there are cats.

2. Blood Brothers: Hermanos de Sangre
First and foremost, Blood Brother: Hermanos de Sangre looks amazing. The art of this graphic 104 page graphic novel is full of so much character and style that you’ll want to back it immediately. Two detectives come together to investigate a museum robbery in this book that is equal parts Hellboy, Beetlejuice, and Grim Fandango! You’ll also be able to snag some of the creators’ other works on certain tiers, so don’t miss out.

1. Steve Lichman Vol. 2
What can I say, Steve Lichman Vol. 1 was my first experience crowdfunding, and it’s the book that got me hooked. Now, with Vol. 2 up, I’m more than ready to continue following Steve and his friends as they live out their somewhat mundane existence in the depths of the dungeon (and elsewhere). It both celebrates and mocks everything you know and love about fantasy, RPGs, and the monster genre. Written and illustrated by creators who have a serious resume (The Witcher 3, Magic the Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons), you cannot go wrong with this book, and in case you missed it the first time ‘round, you can snag Vol. 1 by backing certain tiers.
