Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of The Anime Pulse. The Winter Anime season is winding down which means it’s time to dedicate a column to previewing what I’m going to be watching in the Spring Anime season!
You ready!?
Brace yourselves..
HERE WE GO!
……
……
……
And that concludes what I’m going to be watching!
Okay, on a serious note I am picking up one show which is Re:Zero because it looks like a fantasy version of Boku Dake ga Inai Machi. That in and of itself has me a bit interested and trust me, I am going into this show with the lowest of expectations because I don’t think any show that tries to copy this formula will be better than ERASED. The only show in the time travel genre that I hold above ERASED is, of course, Steins;Gate.
No other show coming up this spring season has caught my interest AT ALL. The only other show that MAY interest me is Kiznaiver. The premise of being connected to other people through bonds is interesting. The fact that Studio Trigger is producing this show is also a green flag because they typically have a pretty good track record so I might give this one a shot, but just something about it doesn’t leap out at me and screams “OH MY GOD I MUST WATCH THIS SHOW.”
Another problem, I think, is that the Winter Season kicked us off with so many great animes like ERASED, Ajin, Dimension W, Durarara!!x2 Ketsu, Assassination Classroom and others that it was going to be really hard for the Spring season to top that. Sure we get another Sailor Moon season, but the whole Sailor Moon Crystal series was fun for nostalgia at first, but I quickly dropped it because it just didn’t capture the magic that the original had… at least for me. Plus, waiting two weeks in between episodes was an incredibly dumb decision. The summer season looks to be where it’s at with the biggest show being hyped is the second season of Berserk, but we have quite a long way to go before we get there.
With all of this in mind, it’s time for me to act like a post in a Facebook anime circle and ask…
WUT ANIME!?
Plain and simple, I am looking for some suggestions here. With one show being a definite pick up and one show being a maybe, that will bring me to a grand total of two (maybe three) shows I’m watching next season. I don’t count Naruto: Shippuuden because of endless fillers and Fairy Tail has ended/gone on hiatus so those long-running series are not going to be there to keep me company. It’s going to be Re:Zero and Assassination Classroom for me next season and maybe Kiznaiver if I pull the trigger on it.
Needless to say, that’s going to open up a LOT of free time for me and rather than spending that free time to do something productive or getting caught up on un-played video games, I’m electing to fill that free time with some anime series that I have not watched, but have been meaning to.
Much like I did the Makoto Shinkai series, I was entertaining the thought of either doing a KEY series by reviewing all the shows such as Air, Kanon, Clannad, and Little Busters. The only thing stopping me is Rewrite. Rewrite is slated for this year and has not aired yet so that’s really holding me back. The other series I thought of doing was a Studio Ghibli series and just plow through all of Hayao Miyazaki’s works and review each and every one of those. I don’t think either choice is a bad choice and both could provide me with an amazing experience.
I have so many different options and by being a fan of anime since 2008, I sure missed a lot of good shows. I could have watched all of these when I started to become an anime fan, which would have been the smart thing to do, but instead I let myself get swept away in the “here and now” and just started watching whatever came out each and every season. I still enjoyed a lot of what I’ve seen and I have gone back and scratched some shows off my list here and there, but never had I really had enough free time to just plow through old shows and get a lot off that list. So I’m really up in the air as to whether I should watch some old series or do another studio/director-centric review.
So that’s why I’m turning to you, the masses. I’d like your opinions on whether I should do a KEY review, a Studio Ghibli review or if you guys are just like “Nah, there are a ton of great animes you need to watch.. here’s just a few.”
Of course, asking for animes to review without knowing what I’ve watched is kind of like attacking the darkness. So I’m going to link you all to my “MyAnimeList” profile so you can see what shows I have already watched. I keep this list up to date every time I watch an anime or read a manga so when you click it, you are guaranteed to see the latest information of what I’ve watched/read.
You can check out my list here: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/systemkrash
The only thing that I ask, if you do decide to recommend a series, try to keep it to a 12-25 episode series. I don’t really want to go into a series with hundreds of episodes because I would like a maximize my time and go through as many as possible.
Let me know what you would recommend and, yes, I will do reviews of anything I watch. No… I will not watch Boku no Pico so don’t even try and go there. I’m well aware of that trap!
Looking forward to your suggestions.
Until next time,
Ja ne!
