Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail manga series has seen many spinoffs centering around Wendy, Gajeel, and Gray, but there was one other that also explored the origins of Fairy Tail itself. That spinoff was Fairy Tail Zero and it focused on Mavis and her time on Tenroujima Island, her travels outside of the island, and how the guild Fairy Tail formed. It was announced in the 52nd volume of Fairy Tail that the Fairy Tail Zero spinoff will receive an anime adaptation that is set to begin airing in January 2016!
The tagline for the anime reads: “The beginning of many things!! The adventure guided by magic and companions …”
Fairy Tail Zero began publication of July 2014 and lasted one year, ending in July of 2015. The manga has been licensed for a U.S. release by Kodansha Comics and will launch in the summer of 2016.
