After being pulled off of Steam and from retail stores after major issues with the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight, WB Games has announced that the title will reappear on Steam today.
What’s more, WB Games has decided that due to the lengthy wait that many original owners of the title had to wait for a patch that makes the game playable that they will also provide free copies of previous Batman titles to anyone who pre-purchased or purchases Batman: Arkham Knight before November 13, 2015.
Those titles include Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY, Batman: Arkham City GOTY, Batman: Arkham Origins, and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. No time frame has been given when those free games will be available, but WB Games is looking to deliver them by December.
They mentioned that as thanks to the Batman: Arkham Knight community, WB Games has announced that a “Community Challenge Pack” will be given free to owners of Batman: Arkham Knight and will be released sometime in January 2016. Included in this new pack are new maps, including a one-week exclusive on PC before they’re released onto the consoles.
Lastly, they announced that WB Games and Valve / Team Fortress 2 team would be working on special cross-promotion. From November 16, 2015, Valve will run a contest for the Steam community to create Batman: Arkham Knight themed items for usage in Team Fortress 2. Those winning items will then be given out to anyone who purchased Batman: Arkham Knight via Steam. For more info on the contest and promo, be sure to check it out here.
And while it’s a nice gesture by WB Games, it’s been far too long for me (4 months now), and perhaps many other PC gamers will feel the same way. Instead of providing past titles from the Batman series, I’d rather have a credit on Steam or a pick of something else. For most Batman gaming fans, we already own these games, so that this gesture will be wasted on many of us, that is unless we can gift it to others. My kid’s account would like them, at least.
Do you already own a copy of Batman: Arkham Knight? If so, how do you feel about WB Game’s gesture? Good enough or is this just rubbing salt into an open wound?
