We all know what to expect when we hear that a movie that is based off of a video game is announced. Yes…that distinguishable groan, rivaled only by the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV: Online.
Well, Yahoo! has broken the story that Michael Fassbender has been cast as Callum Lynch, an original character with an original story in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie, set for release on December 21, 2016.

Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.
The movie is also slated to star Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), Michael Kenneth Williams (12 Years a Slave), and Ariane Labed (Before Midnight). Filming begins Monday, with said filming set to take place in Malta, London and Spain.
