Imagine a place full of mystery and danger where you are the leader of a group chosen to uncover all its secrets. In Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight, you play as Hero, an orphan who is given the sole responsibility of scouring a maze that is known as the Labyrinth. Along the way, you will meet some very interesting characters that is sure to make your journey quite interesting.
Let’s get this adventure started
In this sequel to the Etrian games, your team or ‘guild,’ is one of many who choose to attempt to explore the Labyrinth found within the a large tree called Yggdrasil. Yggdrasil is a maze filled with monsters and creepy-crawlies so you need to make sure you have the best team possible. In Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight, there are two separate ways to play where you can have full control on how your team works. In Classic mode, you can build your own team and choose from 13 skills sets at the Explorers Guild that you can mix and match at any time to make your gameplay perfect for you.
After sifting through and finding the best skill, there are quite a few places to visit like Stickleback Bar where you can get tips from other adventures and Flaus Inn where you can heal your team if you get into a sticky situation. Before you can begin your adventure, you have to prove your worth by mapping your way through the Labyrinth. Being reckless here can make this game much harder than it needs to be since you have to make your own map by noting doors, dead ends, and special areas. You are exploring a new area so it may as well feel like it.
Aside from the puzzle of the map, combat can be puzzling, too, and this is where your team dynamic comes into play. Having the right set of skills will make or break you when the real battles begin. No member is greater than the other so don’t try to focus all your attention on one person. Aside from the team building and other slight variations, EO2U has a classic RPG fighting style that should please most RPG players.
So far, EO2U is a very good game, in my opinion, that all RPG lovers should try. If you’re interested and can’t wait for the full release, check out the demo that’s being released on July 13th, 2015 and stay tuned for the full review.
