By the end of 2015 we will have our first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. Unlike the initial introduction of Blu-rays, this time around, there are no competing formats. That means we will be getting improvements in movies and games at a faster pace than last time.
As C-Net breaks it down, the improvements we know about so far are a higher frame rate, expanded color, high dynamic range, 10-bit, h.265/HEVC, and larger storage.
Why should you care? On the film front, greater discs will eventually lead to films being made in higher specifications, and on the game front… Imagine what we could do with all of these specifications on our disc alone. Nothing will change drastically soon, but this is one of the evolutions to our future in entertainment.
