Today’s the day that the thousands upon thousands of Nintendo loving drones decent onto the unsuspecting store workers to acquire the much sought after Nintendo WiiU. No doubt there will be madness along with some fighting in the streets aisles as the day progresses, hopefully everyone attempts to retain a shred of common courtesy.
And no, no one from the staff here picked on up so you’ll hear no reviews from us but I doubt you’ll miss it as every other site around the globe will have something regarding the launch for you. That’s not to say that we couldn’t have as I have a receipt here on my desk from Bestbuy, which I’m still on the fence about (for the kids) for the Deluxe Wii U. Still I have 5 days to ultimately decide, so who knows….. I will say though the release is hardly worth it currently with a handful of games that I’m even remotely interested about which is mainly ZombiU and um… that’s it.
Rayman Legends got pushed back until 2013, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate isn’t until 2013 and basically every other title I have on either the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC. Sorry gang but as far as Mario goes, I’ve been playing every rendition of Mario since the NES and I’m Mario’d out. I’d play it if someone handled me copy for free or as a gift but currently I wouldn’t be paying $60 for more of the same that I got from New Super Mario Bro’s on Wii but in HD.
That’s not to say the Wii U is a bad system, No I’m not saying that. I’m saying the software that launched with it is poor if you already have a current generation console (and to that extent is the Wii U truly next generation?) as most of the titles can be picked up for far less compared to their Wii U counterparts. Mass Effect 3, Ninja Gaiden 3, Assassin’s Creed III, Madden 13, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Dark Siders 2 and so forth, you get the picture. There’s not one single title that screams “Get this system now!“.
That and I’m still pretty sad on the state of the Wii, there was much wasted potential with the system that any worth their salt, Nintendo fanboys excluded, should really do a double take on Nintendo’s stance this time around. Are we going to see more of the same from Nintendo or will they finally make the push to remove the Nintendo name from being synonymous with kiddie and childish? Sure they snagged (Saved) Bayonetta 2 but it’s going to take more than that to convince me that Nintendo is on the right path. Still I can be bribed with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Dragon Quest X, assuming they are worth it as well.
To quote a family member of mine regarding the Wii U, “Oh no Nintendo… You got me before… Not this time. I’m sitting this one out thank you very much”.
So for everyone else is the Wii U worth it and did you pick one up? If not are you looking toward the future of the Wii U or are you going to completely skip this and wait on the next Xbox or Playstation?
And also if you offer me $5 and live in the Delaware area I may even give up my Wii U preorder =)
