With the new season fast approaching, several anime creators and studios have announced projects that will begin airing in 2015.
The most notable is Charlotte. This is an original anime creation by anime writer Jun Maeda. Maeda made the announcement stating that both KEY (Air, Clannad, Little Busters!) and P.A. Works (Angel Beats, Red Data Girl) will be teaming up to help produce this anime. Maeda has been the writer for all of the aforementioned anime for both of these studios and it feels like a natural fit to have them come together to produce this. While fans were hoping that KEY would announce an anime adaptation for their Visual Novel Rewrite, this still has Maeda’s fan base excited! There are no details yet on the plot, but Aniplex has announced they have acquired the license to this show.
KEY also made the announcement that Angel Beats will be receiving a 14th episode in the form of an OVA that will come out with the Blu-Ray release of the show on June 24, 2015. The episode will be titled “Hell’s Kitchen” and it has been written by Jun Maeda himself.
The Slice of Life show Non Non Biyori will be getting a second season called Non Non Biyori Repeat. The story takes place in the countryside, where the nearest bookstore is 20 minutes away by bicycle, a certain “Ju_p” magazine comes out on Wednesdays instead of Mondays, and the video rental store is 10 stations away. Hotaru Ichijō transfers from Tokyo to this school and readjusts to the slow life in the country. Her fellow schoolmates are Natsumi, Komari, Renge, and Komari’s big brother Suguru in the third year of middle school.
The Slice of Life comedy hit Working!! will be getting a third season! The first season was called Working!!, the second season was called Working!!’, and the third season will be called Working!!!. Just a slight variation in punctuation at the end of the title differentiates the different seasons. No plot has been revealed, but the first two seasons were a hilarious hit and it had garnered enough interest for a third season to be green lit. It features a boy named Takanishi who was literally recruited off the streets to work in a faux Denny’s restaurant with a high schooler who looks like she belongs in middle school, a girl with androphobia, a lazy boss with mafia connections, a girl who lives in the attic of the restaurant, a voice of reason chef, and a waitress who always carries around a katana. It will begin airing in July 2015.
To Love-Ru Darkness will be getting a second season titled To Love-Ru -Trouble- Darkness 2nd. They will rerun the first season of To Love-Ru Darkness starting on January 12, 2015. Unfortunately, there is no time table as to when the second season will air, but the cast from the first season has all signed on to reprise their roles when the second season begins airing! It should also be noted that a new game for the PS Vita has all been announced featuring content from the Darkness seasons.
The 13th and last episode of the current I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying television anime announced on Friday that production on a second season has the green-light. The new season will begin airing and streaming in April. Cool Kyōshinsha’s original four-panel web manga I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying (Danna ga Nani o Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken) follows the daily life of an earnest, hardworking office lady named Kaoru and her otaku husband, Hajime, who is totally immersed in a certain huge neet bulletin board system.
Gintama has also has the OK for the April 2015 anime season! The original anime began airing in 2006 and ran through 2013 after suffering from multiple hiatuses. The anime also inspired two movies and an OVA Special that aired in November of 2014. That special will be available on April 3, 2015, right around when the new anime is set to begin. No word on what the plot of the new anime will be, but Gintama fans are already excited that it is coming back to television.
Tokyo Ghoul Root A will have a short extension. The number of episodes were in question, but Studio Pierrot confirmed that the anime will only last 12 episodes. The manga for Tokyo Ghoul has finished. There is a side-story, called Tokyo Ghoul:Re, in the making.
Finally, despite the fact the the manga has ended, the Naruto Shippuuden anime will have a new filler arc starting the first week of January 2015. The filler arc is set to be called The Back of Naruto ~The Miracle of Comrades~. While the plot is unknown, the poster features Naruto, Hinata, Tenten, Neji, Lee, Kiba, Ino, Sakura, Chōji, Shino, Gaara, Tsunade, and Fū. Studio Pierrot said the anime will be continuing after the filler arc and announced that title of the next movie will be “Boruto -Naruto the Movie-“ That movie is set to open in August of 2015.
